A closer look at Dawnbreaker Consulting.
My consultancy centers in a core belief and practice of Anti-racism, Equity and Restorative Justice/Practices in my personal, spiritual and professional realms. To this end, I have taught and was a member of school leadership in public school districts and charter schools for the past 15 years.
I now head my firm that serves schools that desire to provide an authentic and equitable educational experience for school leaders, all staff, students and their families. I also partner with non-profit and for-profit organizations to be organized, equitable, innovative and an active community participant.
The following offers three distinct areas of my expertise:
Commitment to equity and social justice
l am an African American woman, member of the LGBTQIA community and US Army veteran, who was adopted into a large, Bahai and multi-racial family.
Due to my unique background and life experience I have the unyielding commitment to assist schools and businesses to transform their equity and social justice initiatives into practices.
I operate with a motivational and supportive sense of urgency and wield a critical (not punitive) race theory lens. Lastly, when collaborating and educating others, I model a restorative approach to any challenges that may arise.
Dynamic communication style
I am adept at building trusting and authentic relationships with school and business leaders, students, faculty and staff, employees, parents, and all levels of community stakeholders.
I am also known for my ability to establish trans-cultural trust, respect and rapport with both realms.
Solid practical and theoretical knowledge base in all aspects of K-18 education.
As a former schoolteacher and leader, I developed the unique skill set in leading before, during and after school programs.
I have detailed experience in facilitating professional development sessions, Restorative Justice/practices, trauma informed practices, Response to Intervention (RTI), Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS).
Additionally, I have experience in data analysis, culturally responsive curriculum development, program and organizational management, and advancement.
Testimonials
“I have had the great pleasure of working with Sara Rosenfeld and Dawnbreaker Consulting for the past two years. As the Principal at Rochester Academy Middle school I saw the need to provide teachers with the tools to build restorative communities in the classroom. Sara made that vision a reality for our school with training and ongoing consultation. Sara shares personal stories and real world examples in her training that let teachers know that she has been in the trenches and can relate to their experience. Using a mix of humor and no-nonsense accountability, Sara prepares her groups for positive, loving daily interactions with students. In the first year of Restorative Practices implementation we have seen a significant decrease in classroom referrals and an improvement in school culture. I look forward to continuing the partnership between Rochester Academy Charter School and Dawnbreaker Consulting.”
–Jennifer Doyle Middle School Principal, Rochester Academy Charter School
“Sara has influenced and informed my practice in a way that challenges me to think both critically and holistically about the way I serve children in my organization. Her expertise of restorative practices and anti-racism work, coupled with her experience as both an administrator and a teacher, makes her a powerhouse if you are looking to move this type of work forward in your organization. Passionate and clear in her guidance and consultation, she matches big ideas with concrete steps that provide an actionable path forward. Sara is relatable and compassionate, all while maintaining a valuable directness- a potent combination for this type of vulnerable work.“
–Kerry Muse Director of School Improvement Venture Academy, Minniapolis, MN
“I was connected with Dawnbreaker Consulting in search of support for nonprofit management, but I received more. I worked with Sara R on advancement strategy and people management and the recommendations from her were based in research and experience. Sara R was thorough, professional, flexible, and very knowledgeable. I most enjoy working with Sarah because she is passionate about the work that she does, and because of this, her expectations of herself and her clients are very high. With her support I have become more critical and thorough in my advancement planning, and have created processes that have made my team stronger.”
–Chris Rush Executive Director, Champion Academy
